Michael Madhusudan Dutta

Michael Madhusudan Dutta is one of Benglas’ pioneer son. A great poet and somewhat of rebel, having converted to Christianity after being disillusioned by the archaic practices of  nineteenth century Bengal. However he is now lovingly accepted as part of our culture and is part of our school curriculum as well. Artist Soumen Roy continues to paint his roots and he has created this acrylic portrait on canvas in his typical bright flat deep tone.  We have chosen this portrait for our gallery both for the treatment of the subject and for the subject as well.
